Those costumes are fabulous! And I believe Anna Virovlansky and Tansel Akzeybek are Pamina and Tamino here.
Thanks a bunch! I’ll add their names right away.

Role: Queen of the Night
Singer: Julia Novikova
Opera: Die Zauberflöte (W. A. Mozart)
Julia Novikova in a production from Bonn. It’s quite unusual to see a Queen of the Night costume in such warm colours, but I like it. Unfortunately I do not know the names of Tamino or Pamina - if you happen to know, feel free to enlighten me! (EDIT: the lovely parmandil has informed me that their names are Anna Virovlansky and Tansel Akzeybek)
Role: Sesto
Singer: Isabel Leonard
Opera: Giulio Cesare (G.F. Händel)
Isabel Leonard makes the most convincing “boy” I’ve ever seen. Ever.
Role: Klytämnestra
Singer: Jill Grove
Opera: Elektra (R. Strauss)
Jill Grove portraying an extraordinarily vicious Queen Klytämnestra, mother of Elektra. I’m taken aback by the amazing stage design, I urge you to take a closer look at the last picture to catch all the details! I love the idea of having a bald Queen and bald handmaidens, such a striking contrast to Elektra’s (portrayed by Christine Goerke) long unkept hair.
Lyric Opera of Chicago, 2012.
Role: Oscar, page of Riccardo/Gustavo
Singer: Shannon Mercer
Opera: Un ballo in maschera (G. Verdi)
The Canadian Opera Company, 2003.

Role: Madame de la Haltière, stepmother of Cendrillon
Singer: Marie-Ange Todorovitch
Opera: Cendrillon (J. Massenet)
Definitely getting some Queen of Hearts vibes here…
Role: Jezibaba
Singer: Agnes Zwierko
Opera: Rusalka (A. Dvořák)
Sometimes I really wish I had been born a mezzo, because I LOVE all the menacing witch roles… This is a particularly evil-looking Jezibaba, portrayed by Agnes Zwierko.
Role: Anne Trulove
Singer: Miah Persson
Opera: The Rake’s Progress (I. Stravinsky)
Miah Persson as Anne Trulove in the 2010 Glyndebourne production of The Rake’s Progress. Designs by David Hockney.
Role: Turandot
Singer: Francesca Patanè
Opera: Turandot (G. Puccini)
Francesca Patané as Turandot at Göteborgsoperan, 2012. I went to see this gorgeous production last week. (Also shown: Tomas Lind as the prince Calàf)

As you may (or may not) have noticed, this blog has been silent for a little over a month. It’s not that I’ve been lacking interest - I’m still as passionate as ever about lavish costumes and lovely music - but to be honest I am in a dark place right now and have simply not been able to muster the energy to talk about pretty dresses. Updates will hopefully continue, but they will be a lot more sporadic. Just a heads-up!
(Somewhat related: I’m currently involved in a 20s-themed production of Die Fledermaus that will premiere in late November this year. I’m terribly excited about it.)
